This is a 1953 Pedal Generator, British Army surplus. I found it at a local estate sale and just had to hoard it! The thing still works, and I was able to charge up a small 12v battery with it.
The entire unit folds up into a backpack, and is surprisingly easy to carry around and to use. While I wouldn't want to pedal it all day it does juice up batteries as well as giving me a workout!
This might show up in some future videos where I'm doing off-grid radio and satellite stuff, I haven't quite decided yet. In the meantime it's going to become part of my fallout shelter artifact corner in the basement.
