In this video I finally achieve a neutral solution by slowly adding a saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate. The metal hydroxides of base metals, Palladium, Rhodium, Iridium, Osmium and Ruthenium, settle out of the pure platinum solution and fall to the bottom of the beaker as a black residue. Then I filter the hydroxide solids out of the pure platinum mother liquor. I tried to evaporate the solution down (due to lack of experience) and an unknown precipitate formed in the platinum solution. I filtered it out and added ammonium chloride to the filtered platinum solution but no ammonium hexachloroplatinate formed as expected. I allowed it to settle over night and was pleasantly surprised the next morning to see high purity, bright yellow, hexachloroplatinate had formed and settled out!
