Gold Refining Precipitating Gold with SO2 Sulfur Dioxide Gas

Precipitating gold from a gold chloride solution with sulfur dioxide gas produced in a gas generator. This experiment was performed solely for demonstration purposes. It shows how to set up the apparatus, what chemicals to use to produce the gas, how the gas is introduced into the solution for precipitation. The clogged gas tube in the video was due to erratic/intermittent gas production in the gas generator. Dry Na2S2O5 was used initially. The second attempt was performed with a little water added to the Na2S2O5 to form a slurry. This slurry made the reaction smoother in the generator and solved the erratic/intermittent gas flow problem thus eliminating the conditions for a plugged gas deliver tube.
