So You Hate My "AI" Thumbnails? Here’s How I REALLY Make Them.

I’ve been getting a few comments lately about my use of AI in my YouTube thumbnails — everything from “AI slop” to people saying they’ll unsubscribe because I’m using AI-generated images.

But there’s a little more to the process than simply asking AI to “make me a thumbnail.”

So in this video, I’m pulling back the curtain and showing you exactly how I make my YouTube thumbnails from start to finish.

I start with my own photographs from the actual video and use Photoshop to build the scene: choosing the background, positioning myself, adding rocks, equipment and other elements from my own images. Once I have the composition I want, I use AI as another editing tool to help blend everything together, clean up awkward transitions, improve the overall image and sometimes add the final caption.

You’ll get to see the original photographs, my rough Photoshop composite, what I give to AI, and the finished thumbnail that eventually appears on YouTube.

Is that an “AI-generated thumbnail”? Or Just using another tool in my Graphic Artist Tool Box.

This isn’t really a video about defending AI. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how I use Photoshop + AI together to create the thumbnails for Dan Hurd Prospecting.

And yes... sometimes AI gets things VERY wrong. But so do I.😆
