The absolutely cheapest ESP8266 (D1 mini) module for WLED use:-

Add a 470uF 10v or 16V electrolytic capacitor in the 5V and G holes and tag the power leads for the LEDs directly on the capacitor leads. Then connect the LEDS data line to D2 and assign it in the settings as GPIO4. You can load the software onto the module by plugging it into a USB port and browsing to:-
