A dealership gave me extraordinary access to its Fisker Ocean cars, official dealer tools and workshop—all so we could find out whether a 113 kWh EV battery could be rescued and repurposed after Fisker disappeared.
Working with Simon at Baden Powell and Sons, we captured the hidden CAN communication between the Fisker Ocean and its battery, investigated the faults preventing it from operating, and began building the software needed to wake the battery outside the vehicle.
After multiple visits, failed attempts and a great deal of reverse engineering, we finally reached the moment we had been working towards: the internal contactors closed and the battery produced its full high-voltage output.
That doesn’t mean we’ve created a finished home battery yet. It means we’ve completed the first major step. Next, we need to convince a solar inverter that it is communicating with a compatible battery. But weve got people on that. Keep following the Github pages for upto date info.
