March and June Honey bees prepare to swarm, It is their way of reproducing. The queen will leave the hive and take up to half the workers and resources and leave the hive, leaving behind a new queen cell which will hatch, this new queen will resume laying in the hive.

The old queen now left with the hive will fly and usually land somewhere close to rest. From there scout bees will fly off in all directions looking for a new home. It is at this point Beekeepers like myself can interrupt the swarm and place them into a hive.

This will prevent them from possibly taking up residence in someone's home or chimney where they can cause damage.

Today I show you a nice little honey bee swarm in a cherry tree. I manage to get these into a little 5 frame Nuc and rehome them in the UK Here We Grow Apiaries.
