Aluminum is a very important metal, and is the second most in modern usage. It’s very common and the most abundant metallic element on earth, the crust – Earth is about 8 % aluminum. There are many, many rock forming minerals that contain a significant percentage of aluminum including Feldspars, clays, and micas. There are also many gem minerals with aluminum. We will talk about the geology of aluminum deposits, where aluminum is mined, what the ore looks like. We will also talk about how we make make aluminum cheaply - it was once as expensive as silver.
