Recently a group of researchers figured out how to tattoo tiny tardigrades. By freezing the tardigrade and sticking it into an electron microscope, they were able to pattern chemicals onto their surface by coating them in a thin layer of reactive ice, and patterning where it crosslinks with an electron beam. It's a very interesting technique that could lead to extremely tiny 3d printing, or being able to label individual bacteria.
