California's Richest Gold Mines - A $32 Billion dollar Secret

I’m going to show you the richest gold mining district in California. Now California has produced a whole lot of gold from a whole bunch of different places. This one was the richest, producing more than $32 billion dollars in gold at the current prices. It was so rich that the first guys in there thought that the tons of gold they were finding were going to depress the price of gold. They thought they were digging so much gold that it would overwhelm the gold market. This rich district is the Grass Valley / Nevada City area.

The Nevada City – Grass Valley mining district is the most heavily mineralized and richest gold district in the state with a past production of more than 12 million ounces of gold. The area has a very large number of productive veins in a relatively small area. At Nevada City, there is a system of veins running north-south and dipping east about 40°. The Grass Valley veins are generally narrow, seldom over 2 feet, usually 1 foot, in width, but the gold is coarse and the pay shoots are often very rich; they contain less sulfides than the Nevada City veins. The average grade of ore from the deep mines is perhaps one half to 3/4 ounce per ton. Gold occurs along cracks and grain boundaries in the sulfides and in brecciated quartz.
