This is a good technique for installing threaded inserts into thermoplastics needing only a drill and a soldering iron. These inserts make it easy to use mechanical fasteners with plastic without having to worry about stripping threads or holding strength. Works well with most plastics, as well as most 3D printed parts.

These inserts were from McMaster-Carr: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/3291/=xucdw8 along with the soldering iron and installation tip.
