2024 State of the Games Industry! Layoffs, Games Fatigue & Cancellations (RANT)

Is there a new ‘Video Game Crisis’ on the Horizon? Maybe a large-scale recession in the video game industry like the one that occurred from 1983 to 1985? Studios left and right are laying off people. Only in 2024 Microsoft let go 1,900 workers at Xbox and Activision Blizzard, Unity Software laid off 1,800, Riot Games laid off 530, Eidos Montreal laid off 97 and just during the past 2 weeks Supermassive Games fired staff, Sony Playstation closes studio in London letting go around 900 workers and EA cuts 5% of their workforce, which is around 670 people.
