I show how to import and edit any STL and OBJ File in FreeCAD and how to repair or fix the model if necessary.

If you need a 3D model but only have it as an STL or OBJ file, you first have to convert it before editing it in FreeCAD.
Both formats consist of a triangle mesh, which must be converted into a solid for CAD editing.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to do this in most cases with just a few simple steps.
First, we create a new file and import the STL or OBJ model.
Now, we check if the mesh model is free of errors.
A new body with a Base Feature is created, and we can delete the top two objects in the tree view.
The body can now be modified and expanded as needed.
Keep in mind, a body created from a mesh format is not as cleanly structured and does not have a feature history.
It usually consists of far too many triangles and is always just a compromise.
Editing can be a bit sluggish, radii aren't perfectly round, and you should always try to get a native CAD format or at least a STEP (.stp) file instead.
For the mesh model to be converted into a solid, the mesh must not have any holes or other errors.
Simple errors can be fixed directly in FreeCAD.
If that isn't enough, you can manually repair the mesh model using options like "Harmonize normals," "Fill holes," or "Close holes."
For more difficult cases, you will likely need an external program like Netfabb Basic or MeshLab to repair the file.
