The Fourth Street Elevator or Fenelon Park Elevator has been described as the world's shortest and steepest scenic railway. Running less than 300ft horizontally and climbing nearly 200ft up the river bluff in Dubuque Iowa, this tiny train has been around since the 1880s. It still has a ton of old-timey steampunk charm. Two counterbalanced wooden cars rise and descend the incline track on cables, which are manually operated from above. A round-trip ride only costs $4!
