Ax-Man surplus in St. Paul is probably my favorite store, along with their branches in Fridley and St. Louis Park. I buy everything from project parts to camera junk to mysterious-but-cheap gizmos just because they look cool!
(This video isn't sponsored by Ax-Man, but I still highly recommend them as a source of infinitely cool projects, parts, and "stuff"! Check them out at https://www.ax-man.com/ )

This particular "thing" had no identifying marks on it, but only cost $2.95, so of course I bought it!

After tearing it apart and doing some Google Image sleuthing, I've determined it's most likely a "Scientific Atlanta Surge-Gap Drop Amplifier", a device for improving cable TV signals. I can probably use it with my SDR and radio stuff in the future.
