I found this strange "laser" gadget at the local university surplus store, so I decided to review it! It's not truly a laser, just a high-powered light bulb with focusing optics. It projects a small arrow onto a wall (or whiteboard, or map, etc) This is what professors or presenters would use in the days before laser pointers were invented. These were made by the Ednalite company in the 1960s/1970s.
