Asbestos minerals present hidden dangers - as you never know where they will turn up.
Asbestos is a mineral – it’s a natural product of our earth’s geology. Despite its usefulness in insulation, fire resistance, and sound absorption, the mineral dust is deadly if inhaled. The danger comes when it is disturbed and the dust which is generated can be breathed. The fibers can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis. . Chrysotile asbestos is the most commonly used variety of asbestos, comprising about 90 to 95 percent of asbestos used in buildings in the United States and elsewhere. Amosite asbestos, also known as brown asbestos, is considered one of the most hazardous types of asbestos, its use is about 5 to 10 percent of asbestos applications. Tiger eye is a form of silicified crocidolite asbestos and is made up of both crocidolite and quartz.
