I heard of this Submarine Gold Dredge in Nome Alaska years ago and just assumed that it was a functional machine. I traveled to Nome recently to tour around the harbor and see all the gold dredges, and when I saw this thing still sitting here I had to have a close look. It turns out it had some major design flaws, but I still respect that someone took a complex idea from their head and made it real. We get to have a close up look at the machine, view it from above with some drone shots, and imagine what it would have been like to sit in the cockpit.
After a few weeks of thinking about it, I have a guess as to what I think was the major failure involved with the sub-dredge's design, and propose a way that a minor re-design could one day allow this machine to mine again.
I don't know the full story, just what I've been told. I'm just exploring the idea of this thing as I really like how wild and inventive of an idea this was for someone to make real.
