We recently picked up a little lathe to enable us to turn some of our HDPE pens at home, so we needed a way to keep the workbench tidy and have all the tools close to hand. The lovely folks over at ShadowFoam sent us this awesome orange organiser foam to have a play with, so we came up with this lathe tool rack!
We wanted this to be as low-profile as possible to the wall, so we used two different sizes of ShadowFoam sheet to make this work. We also used an MDF backing piece to help give the foam something to stick to, as we didn’t want to stick it directly to the wall in case we want to move it in future. We finished it off with some scorched pine edge banding to cover up the painted plywood edges. What do you think of the overall look?
We left a little bit of space as there are still a few traditional turning tools we'd like to buy. Probably a roughing gouge, spindle gouge and scraper. If any of you have any recommendations for good quality but reasonably priced traditional lathe tools in the UK then be sure to let us know in the comments below!
