A recent research project discovered that up to 50% of satellite network traffic is un-encrypted and essentially wide open for anyone to snoop on. The researchers discovered phone calls, text messages, emails, database logins, oil & gas industry data, police and military data, and other information being transmitted with little to no security.

The satellite TV industry has often been the first to encrypt and secure communication transponders, but other industries and companies are often slow to follow up. Many corporations are happy to use the cheapest and easiest methods to save money at the expense of customer security and privacy.
