Earthenware or terracotta pottery is by nature porous but it can still be used for food it just needs to be sealed first. Beeswax is my favorite sealant because it is natural, food safe and makes a good durable seal. Chemical sealants are also available such as liquid quartz but beeswax is a lot cheaper.
