I got a request to make a dorodango inspired by bloodstone. Have you heard of bloodstone? It is a deep green gemstone with red spots, and it has a truly mysterious beauty to it. It turned out so mesmerizing, I could look at it forever!
I gifted this one to a neighbor who has been kindly volunteering language lessons for my husband. She was so happy to receive it. ☺️✨🩷🩷
Turning gratitude into a handmade jewel, shaped by your own hands from the earth, is something truly moving. Both the giver and the receiver are filled with deep joy. Please try making one!
If you have a request, leave it in the comments!
I share everything about how to make it in my 2-hour tutorial on YouTube. You will learn about materials, techniques, why it shines, and even a Zen mindset for the whole process. Comments have been growing and it is becoming hard to reply to everyone, so I have answered the most common questions below from the start. Take your time reading through, and then give it a try!

FAQ
Is it firm/solid?
Yes, very! You can place a dorodango on a carpet and lie on top of it without it breaking.
Can it break?
Yes, if you drop it, it can break, just like ceramics. And the inside really is just earth.
What happens if it gets wet?
It dissolves and returns to earth. So if it breaks or you no longer need it, you can leave it on the ground and it will return to nature naturally. You can also use that earth to make a new dorodango. It is a sustainable, endlessly playful practice.
What is it for?
Nothing in particular. ☺️✨ And that is perfectly fine.
What is the color powder?
It is mica. I mix mica with clay and apply it to the surface.
How long does it stay shiny?
As long as it stays dry, it will keep its shine forever. Prolonged direct sunlight may fade the mica colors, but a piece made with earth alone will not change.
