In this video, you'll see how to teach Runtime-Tunable Parameters
Robot Kit Used (including the environment): BotBox Robot Teaching Kit: https://www.theconstruct.ai/botbox-warehouse-lab/
A config file is read once when a robot starts up. Parameters are different: they’re live values you can change while the robot is running, and it reacts right away — no restart, no rebuild, no relaunch.
Learning Points:
✅ Build a single node that drives the robot forward and turning at configurable rates, reading those values fresh every moment rather than just once at startup.
✅ Set sensible limits up front so the robot automatically refuses any value outside a safe range, with no extra checking of your own.
✅ Retune the robot on the fly from a second terminal while it’s actively driving, and watch its motion change instantly.
✅ Inspect the robot’s current settings and save a tuned setup so you can reapply the whole profile later.

[For Robotics Teachers Open Class], a weekly series of videos by The Construct Robotics Institute, aims to make robotics education easier by helping teachers teach a wide range of robotics topics through hands-on practice.
Each session provides a ROS-based project (referred to as ROSJECTs 🦾 📁) for all attendees, including notebooks, code, and robot simulations. Led by ROS expert Desire, you'll see how robotics teaching and hands-on practice come together in real time.
We're excited to share this series with you! If you have questions or want to explore new topics, drop us a comment below.
