Planting out Onions A Step By Step Guide (2018) is a video showing you how to plant out onion sets that you have started to grow early indoors in modules or containers. Starting onions off early indoors is a great way to get a jump on winter. Planting out onions is easy as the root system is very strong, this helps to anchor it into the new raised bed that your planting into. It prevents the birds from pulling the onion sets and as the weather is warmer they get off to a great start as soon as they hit the soil.
I use a granular onion fertiliser as a general feed and this is dug in to the bed before planting out onions. Planting out onions in this way gives them everything they require for perfect round large onions later in the year when it comes to harvesting the onions.
