Join me for a day of jade hunting and rockhounding along the gravel bars of British Columbia's mighty Fraser River! Today, I'm searching for jade and other valuable rocks, with a special focus on sillimanite, a beautiful stone sometimes referred to as "Fraser River Mutton Fat Jade."
But the Fraser River is full of incredible geological treasures, and I'm keeping my eyes open for anything interesting! Along the way, I'll show you how I identify different rocks, what makes certain stones worth collecting, and some of the amazing varieties of rock that can be found along the river.
This video is a little different from my usual adventures. I've combined today's jade-hunting trip with some fantastic footage I filmed earlier in the spring. That footage was originally intended for its own video, showcasing the incredible variety of rocks found along the Fraser River, but it never quite made it into a finished episode. The footage was simply too good not to share!
By bringing these two adventures together, we've got a complete rockhounding experience filled with jade hunting, rock identification, beautiful specimens, and the thrill of discovering what treasures the Fraser River has to offer!
Whether you're an experienced rockhound or just getting started, I hope this video helps you recognize some of the amazing rocks that might be hiding right beneath your feet!
Happy Prospecting!
