Goldfield was the richest gold district and produced the most super high grade rocks in Nevada. Goldfield is a high sulphidation gold deposit, and these tend to be big, coming in in large to extremely large sizes. They can be amazingly rich and produce huge amounts of very high-grade ore. Many high sulphidation systems have been discovered based on the recognition of large areas of intense rock alteration, which can be seen on satellite images like those found on Google Earth. These deposits can be vast and contain millions of ounces of gold and sometimes huge amounts of silver as well.
High sulphidation systems are found within volcanic arcs dominated by andesitic rocks. They form in the upper parts of copper porphyry systems.
