We used an acoustic trigger to take a well timed photo of a ball being hit. We added a 1 millisecond delay to the photo so the ball is shown just jumping off the bat. Note the slight "squish" of the ball. I made the acoustic trigger by using a piezo element to bias a transistor which in turn switched a silicon controlled rectifier.
