Lots of guys get attracted to the concept of being self-employed out in the wilds, and making a living off the land. It is true that now is the time to go find yourself some gold. A lot of the guys who prospect regularly have other jobs that allow time for prospecting or they are retired and have enough savings and pension to cover their needs so that the gold is just extra. Most of the small group who do live only on prospecting, do it by living in the field with a very low cost, hand to mouth kind of existence.
