Tips are here⬇️⬇️
I dissolved an old dorodango back into earth and started fresh!
🌱 Returning to earth
Add a little extra water and leave it overnight. Once soft, knead it well.
⚪️ Shaping
The clay will be quite wet, so shape it roughly into a ball and let it rest for 1 hour to half a day. Once some moisture has evaporated, place it in a plastic bag and roll until it starts to shine. Take it out and roll it again to firm it up.
⏰ If you want to finish the same day
If it’s still soft, repeat the cycle — rest, roll in bag, roll outside the bag — until it holds its shape.
🌙 If finishing the next day is okay
After rolling it firm, put it back in the bag while still slightly soft and leave it until the next day. By morning, the moisture will have settled to just the right level.
You can also keep it in a bag in a cool, dark place for a few days and come back to finish it later. I sometimes make a bunch of cores at once, store them in bags, and finish them one by one. That’s what I’m doing now — making lots of small ones as gifts! Just keep in mind that mold can develop if left too long, especially in warmer seasons. In cooler months, they can stay in the bag for about 10 days.
✨ Finishing
Shape it with water, polish with a cup, and apply mica in whatever design you like. If you don’t want the colors to blend, press the mica into the side of the cup first to set it, then polish the whole surface — this keeps the colors clean and separate. This also works beautifully for light and dark marble effects.
