Some ISAs let you take money out and put it back. Others make you start again. With a flexible ISA, you can withdraw and replace money within the same tax year without using up your £20,000 allowance. With a non-flexible ISA, anything you put back counts as a new contribution. Take out £100,000 for a house move or a tax bill and you could only return £20,000 a year, which means five years to get back where you started. Small withdrawals usually aren't a problem. So when you open an ISA, the question worth asking is: can I put it back?
