Hacking Portable Satellite Dishes (Part 2)

Some further experiments with self-contained portable satellite dishes. These are the type you'd find on the roof of an RV, a boat, or at a tailgate party. In this video I'm checking out two similar units, the Dish Tailgater and VuQube VQ1000.

The VuQube model is interesting because you can manually aim it with a wireless remote. This makes it easy to point at different satellites.

The Tailgater is one I've played with before, but this time I found a way to aim it via computer. This is something that will return in a future video, since computer control gives me a lot more options to do cool stuff like radio astronomy!

I also tried receiving some things like Starlink beacons using a B-Band adapter (I'm still not sure why that works) and L-Band signals with a modified GPS antenna.

There will definitely be more updates on this stuff, since I'm having a lot of fun snooping around on space signals! I might have to build a dedicated computer for some of the satellite things I mess with, so that's a possible future video as well! Stay tuned (ha!) for those...
