You are who you hang with. This is a well-known phrase that goes along with an even more well-known phrases "You're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with."

This may seem like an overstatement, but it's the cold hard truth.

The people you hang around have an absolutely massive impact on you, your finances, your health, your faith, and your attitude.

If you're serious about not being poor and getting ahead with your money, you need to audit your inner circle. This may mean making hard decisions like pulling away from friends. But sometimes that's what it takes if you want to get ahead. Ultimately, you need to spend time around people who are on a similar path. Period.
