You can learn to identify rocks and minerals, and the skill of mineral identification is one well worth learning. The basic identifying characteristics of different minerals include: crystal shape, Hardness, luster, Chemistry, density, cleavage, magnetism, chemistry and color. Each one of these characteristics is an indicator to help you learn what the mineral is. If you know these clues, you can determine the various characteristics and help you identify minerals. My prospecting book has a little of this, but there are mineral guides that focus on the topic. It’s not just about color: a lot of people focus too much on it because its so easy to see. But many minerals come in multiple shades and colors. Don't send me pictures, instead watch these videos and learn to identify minerals for yourself. This video is part 2 of a 3 part series.
