I picked this thing up really cheap, thinking it was a morse code flasher light. It turns out it's something a little more rare, a "Metascope" from the US Navy. It used a light-charged phosphor screen and mirror system to detect infrared lights for night-time signaling. While the phosphor is sadly too decayed for it to function any more, it's a really cool piece of vintage tech! I had no idea these things even existed until I bought one!
